Bring Your Own Device

Use your own NFC tag with TapIfLost.

Not everyone wants our tag. That was difficult for us to process, but after several moments of reflection, we are ready to support your independence.

If you found an NFC tag you like better, buy it. Use it. Give it the life it deserves on the TapIfLost system. We will not get jealous, act weird, or send it passive-aggressive emails.

What to expect

TapIfLost allows you to use your own NFC tag.
One-time activation fee: $9.95. No monthly fees.
You are responsible for programming and setup.
Help desk support is not provided for third-party devices.
Activation $9.95

One-time activation for your own NFC tag. No recurring monthly charge. No surprise subscription. No weird emotional fee either.

Want the easier route?

If you want the simplest path, buy one of our tags. If you already found a third-party one you like more, we will try to be mature about it.

How BYOD Works

A self-service setup path for your NFC tag of choice.

Bring Your Own Device is for people who already found a compatible NFC tag they like and want to connect it to TapIfLost. We handle the system side. You handle the part where you decided to go rogue.

1

Start your activation

Begin the BYOD setup flow and review the terms before continuing. This is where we explain the one-time fee, the self-service setup, and the very adult agreement that we will not be your third-party tag therapist.

2

Set up your tag

If your phone and browser cooperate, TapIfLost may be able to help with setup. If not, we will still give you the instructions you need so you can finish the job yourself like the capable independent person you apparently are.

3

Activate it to your account

Once your tag is ready, activate it to your TapIfLost account and manage it through your dashboard like any other eligible device in the system. See? We can all get along.

Who It Is For

Best for people who already found “the one.”

BYOD is a good fit for customers who already own compatible NFC hardware and would rather use that than buy a TapIfLost product. We respect the commitment, even if it stings a little.

Use what you already have

If you already have an NFC sticker, card, fob, pet tag, or another compatible device, BYOD gives you a way to bring that hardware into TapIfLost instead of buying something you do not need twice.

Keep the one you actually like

Maybe it looks cooler. Maybe it fits your bag better. Maybe it has a very specific vibe and your dog deserves nothing less. Fair enough. Bring it over and let’s move on with our lives together.

Supported products are still available

If you want the most direct TapIfLost experience with hardware built for the system from the start, our own tags are still the better path. We are mentioning that calmly.

FAQ

Questions asked by sensible people before clicking the button.

These are the things most first-time visitors want to know before deciding whether BYOD is the right move.

Do I have to buy a TapIfLost product first?

No. BYOD is specifically for customers who already have their own NFC tag and want to use it with TapIfLost.

Is there a monthly fee?

No. Bring Your Own Device uses a one-time activation fee of $9.95 and does not include a monthly fee. We dislike surprise subscriptions as much as you do.

Does TapIfLost allow third-party NFC tags?

Yes. That is the entire point of BYOD. If you already found a compatible tag you like better, TapIfLost allows you to bring it into the system without us throwing a fit.

What does “no support” mean here?

It means help desk support is not provided for third-party devices. We support adding eligible BYOD tags to TapIfLost, but you are responsible for programming and setup on the hardware side.

What if I want a more direct and supported experience?

TapIfLost products are the better fit if you want a simpler supported path with hardware prepared for the system from the start. Sometimes the easy answer is the right answer.

Already have your own NFC tag?

Bring it into TapIfLost with a one-time activation. Or, if you would rather keep things simple and avoid making this unnecessarily interesting, shop TapIfLost products instead.

Choose your next step

Start BYOD if you want to use your own NFC tag. Shop TapIfLost products if you want a more direct supported experience with hardware prepared for the TapIfLost system. Both are valid. One is just a little more on-brand for us.
