This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) governs your use of the TapIfLost Services and is incorporated into the TapIfLost Terms of Service. This AUP is intended to protect users, Finders, Owners, TAPIFLOST systems, and the public from abuse, fraud, coercion, privacy violations, and unlawful conduct.

You may not use the Services in any manner that violates this AUP.

1. Core Principle

TapIfLost exists to facilitate legitimate recovery of lost items and related good-faith communications. You may use the Services only for lawful, honest, respectful, and intended purposes.

2. Prohibited Conduct

You may not use the Services to:

2.1 Abuse or Harm Others

  • harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, or exploit any person
  • engage in coercive, abusive, or manipulative conduct
  • send obscene, hateful, or violent messages
  • pressure a user or Finder into unsafe meetings or unlawful conduct
  • collect, publish, or expose personal information beyond what is necessary for a legitimate recovery interaction

2.2 Commit Fraud or Deception

  • impersonate another person or entity
  • falsely claim to own, possess, or have found an item
  • create fake recovery events or false return offers
  • solicit payment, donations, or reimbursements under false pretenses
  • misrepresent rewards, eligibility, timing, or item condition
  • use the Services in connection with stolen property or fraudulent claims

2.3 Violate Privacy or Security

  • upload malicious code or interfere with system security

2.4 Misuse Recovery Communications

  • use a Temporary Messaging Channel for unrelated marketing or solicitation
  • send spam or repeated unsolicited communications
  • attempt to move communications off-platform for abusive or deceptive purposes
  • pressure another party to disclose personal information unnecessary to recovery

2.5 Abuse the Platform Operationally

  • use bots, scripts, crawlers, or automation without express written permission
  • overload, disable, or degrade the platform
  • interfere with other users’ access or use

Without express written authorization from TAPIFLOST, you may not use the Services for:

  • law enforcement surveillance
  • bounty collection operations
  • debt collection
  • harassment monitoring
  • covert tracking or monitoring of persons
  • domestic surveillance
  • uses involving serious bodily risk
  • uses requiring regulated safety, emergency response, or medical-grade reliability

TapIfLost is a lost-item recovery platform, not a surveillance, law enforcement, emergency dispatch, or personal tracking service.

4. Content Restrictions

You may not upload, transmit, or submit content that:

  • is unlawful, defamatory, infringing, fraudulent, or deceptive
  • includes malware or malicious payloads
  • violates privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights

  • promotes violence, exploitation, or illegal conduct

5. Rewards and Recovery Conduct

If you offer a reward, you must do so honestly and lawfully. You may not use the promise of a reward to lure, entrap, deceive, or pressure a Finder or any other person. TapIfLost does not administer or guarantee rewards.

Users are expected to use sound judgment for any return arrangements. TapIfLost may restrict or terminate users who use recovery features in bad faith.

6. Enforcement

TAPIFLOST may investigate actual or suspected violations of this AUP and may take any action it determines appropriate, including:

  • warning the user
  • removing or restricting content
  • suspending messaging channels
  • deactivating products or workflows
  • suspending or terminating accounts
